TBP Spin and Go : How to make 2024 your best year yet!
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results” These are incredibly wise and well known words from Albert Einstein himself. However, they resonate so well with the poker industry as a whole and the situation many players face continuously. It is incredibly easy to get into bad habits when playing poker and the Spin and Go format is no different. Given the fact that 2023 is drawing to an end why don’t we skip the bullshit and make a promise to one another? Lets break this cycle and make 2024 your best year yet! Daunting right? It does not need to be.
#1 “Scheduling” – Treating poker like a business.
One of the huge upsides of the Spin and Go format is the quick nature of the games, the ability to play when you want, and the fast-paced/high traffic elements of the format that allow you to play as many games as you want in a particular session. While this is truly a blessing for some players, especially those who have endured long MTT grinds in the past with fixed schedules, other players can become lazy, disorganized, and unprepared when sitting down to play.
Just because you can play when you want does not mean you should load up the tables the minute you wake up, the minute you put down your breakfast toast, or on your mobile phone app in the waiting room of the dentist. These conditions make it difficult to bring your A-game to the tables. A poker player’s A-game will always be their apex state, the state in which they are physically and mentally conditioned to yield the best results and make the best decisions. The GOAT poker players around are still incredibly profitable in their B and C games; however, these players are the equivalent of the Michael Jordans of basketball—very few and far between!
When considering your schedule in 2024, why not treat it like a business? Consider the best playing times on your current site. Consider when you are at your most alert and focused. Consider your nutrition; do not sit there and play whilst devouring a family pack of potato chips—this will do nothing but create a crumbly mess on the floor. Are you taking enough breaks? One thing which works really great for myself is the 55/5 rule. I play for 55 minutes, take a break completely away from the PC, walk downstairs, stretch, jump up and down, get jiggy with some sick tunes. These 5 minutes, although a small time window, really allow your body and mind to unwind. You can rinse and repeat this for as many sessions as you want to play in the day!
#2 “We Get by With a Little Help From Our Friends”
Online poker is difficult. It can be isolating and lonely; even through winning periods, the lack of human interaction can be a daunting task for many. During downswings, this is amplified, and it can feel like the darkest place in the world. However, it does not need to be this way. “Strength in numbers” is truly a great phrase and one which Spin and Go players can implement quite easily.
Check out the TBP Discord community; as it stands, we are over 1100 members strong, and the idea behind this community is for like-minded individuals with a love for the game to chill, hang out, help one another on their journeys, and become the best versions of ourselves we can. If you are still pondering whether or not to take this advice, then you are being foolish. The community is free, always will be. What do you actually have to lose? Get in now!
#3 “Find Your Home”
Finding a poker site is like finding a home. You want to find a safe neighborhood, friendly neighbors, strong foundations to keep you warm in the winter, and most importantly, somewhere you like being because over the course of our lives, we will spend a large amount of time at home. It is the same when it comes to Spin and Go’s—the site you choose will become your home for the future, and therefore, you need to make sure you have made the best decision.
Now, we are not interested in the poker site keeping us warm in the winter; we have our partners to do that, but what we are concerned with is ensuring it is the correct room for us and does it maximize our chances of success? Do we have a good rakeback deal here? Is there a good level of recreational players? Is the poker site secure? Do they process financial transactions in a good time frame? Do they run promotions with additional benefit? Is there traffic?
Throughout our extensive poker career, the minds behind TBP have played on literally every network/site and have always found our way back to our forever home of Winamax. Winamax has everything you need as a Spin and Go poker player to succeed; on top of this, TBP now has a club there with additional benefits, monthly freeroll with cash prizes, and additional giveaways. Make a smart choice in 2024 and come join us here!
#4 “Supplements”
Supplements are very well known. We continuously supplement our bodies with nutrients, creatine, multivitamins, etc. So, with this in mind, how can we supplement our poker brains? We are not going to delve into the science here of different wonder herbs every poker player should be ingesting before their session; instead, we will look at poker software.
The industry has evolved massively in terms of available resources. Tools such as GTO Wizard, Hand2Note, and Holdem Resources Calculator are leading the way with continuous updates and new ingenious ways to learn and increase your own skill set/capacity.
If you are not using these tools currently, you should be, and 2024 is the year to do so! Literally, all of the industry-leading tools have free trial options, and TBP has various partnership deals to allow us to pass on and offer discounts to the TBP community. So instead of reaching for the TV remote and putting on another episode of The Big Bang Theory, head on over to one of the above products, claim your TBP discount, and make those gains, bruh.
#5 “Open-Minded”
Tough one. Huge concept. Everyone likes to think they keep an open mind; however, when you are dealing with a particular situation yourself, the mind can close quite quickly, and a tunnel vision, “fuck my life” kind of thought process can soon take over. As a poker player, you are going to face ups and downs; this is not an “if,” it is a “when.” The difference between the greats is that they deal with downswings better. If you plan to spend 2024 continuing the same cycle of emotional attachment to results, being super happy when you’re winning, and becoming an absolute monster when you are losing, nothing will change.
Mindset is incredibly important; why not spend a little bit of time in 2024 working on this concept? Become an absolute mindset weapon, and I guarantee that your downswings will shorten, your upswings will improve, and your overall quality of life on and off the tables will substantially increase. While we are always keen to increase our results at the tables as poker players, there is often a very overlooked importance to increasing our whole life balance too.
There you have it, 5 top tips to make 2024 a great year, both on and off the tables. The beauty of this is, you can implement these tips so easily, and you are not alone. TBP can help with all of the above; we have been there, done it, got the T-shirt, burnt the T-shirt, rebought the T-shirt, sold the T-shirt, and are back wearing it again 😀 Ups and downs, swings and roundabouts, we are all in this together. GLGL and see you in our Discord community!
